Hadiths Contradict the Qur'an

Hadith books may contain more details. But are those details helpful and consistent with the Qur'an? How does a believer decide between conflicting details? Does he just pick the word of his favorite Imam? If we follow the words of a particular, favorite imam, does that meant that we are really following the practice of the prophet? For instance, you may find dozens of hadiths in Sahih Muslim narrating that the Prophet Muhammad read al-Fatiha and bowed down, without reading any additional verses from the Qur'an. You will find many other hadiths claiming that the Prophet read this or that chapter after al-Fatiha. There are also many conflicting hadiths regarding ablution which is the source of different rituals among sects. Hadith, more or less of them compounding God's Word with contradictory details, cannot guide to the truth. It has become a necessary evil for ignorant believers and community leaders who manipulate them.

Hadith books narrate a silly story regarding the times of so-called Islamic prayer and its ordinance. The story of Mirage is one of the longest hadiths in the Bukhari. Reportedly, after getting frequent advice from Moses by going up and down between the sixth and seventh heaven, Muhammad negotiated with God to reduce the number of prayers from 50 times a day (one prayer for every 28 minutes) to 5 times a day. This hadith portrays Muhammad as a compassionate union leader saving his people from God's unmerciful and impossible demand.

  • The Prophet never urinated in a standing position. (Masnad Hanbal, 6/136, 192, 213)
  • The Prophet urinated in a standing position. (Bukhari, 4/60, 62)
  • A group from Ureyneh and Uqayleh tribes came to the Prophet, and he advised them to drink urine of camels.  Later on, when they killed the Prophet’s shepherd, the Prophet seized them, gouged out their eyes, cut their hands and legs, and left them thirsty in the desert. (Bukhari, 56/152, Masnad Hanbal, 3/107, 163)
  • I am the most honorable messenger; on the Day of Judgement only I will think of my people. (Bukhari, 97/36)
  • Do not make any distinction among the messengers; I am not even better than Jonah. (Bukhari, 65/4, 5; Hanbal, 1/205, 242, 440)
  • Bad luck is in the woman, the horse, and the home. (Bukhari, 76/53)
  • If a donkey, a black dog or a woman passes in front of a praying person, his prayer is nullified. (Bukhari 8/102; Hanbal, 4/86)
  • The Prophet gave permission to kill children and women in war. (Bukhari, Jihad 146, Abu Dawood 113)
  • Leaders have to be from the Quraish tribe. (Bukhari, 3/129, 183; 4/121; 86/31)
  • You shall kill all black dogs, because they are devils (Hanbal, 4/85; 5/54)
  • To prove His identity, God opened his legs and showed the Prophet His thigh. (Bukhari, 97/24); 10/129)
  • The parchment on which the verse about stoning to death for adultery was written, was eaten and abrogated by a goat. (Ibn Maajah, 36/1944; Hanbal, 3/61; 5/131, 132, 183; 6/269)
  • When the Prophet died, his armour had been pawned to a Jew for several pounds of barley.  (Bukhari, 34/14, 33, 88; Hanbal 1/300; 6/42, 160, 230)
  • The punishment for cutting the fingers of a woman is to pay her: 10 camels for one finger; 20 camels for two fingers; 30 camels for three fingers, and 20 (twenty) camels for four fingers. (Hanbal, 2/182; Muwatta, 43/11)
  • The Prophet had been bewitched by a Jew, and for several days he did not know what he was doing. (Bukhari, 59/11; 76/47; Hanbal 6/57; 4/367)
  • Do not eat or drink with your left hand, because Satan eats and drinks with the left hand. (Hanbal, 2/8, 33)
  • The Prophet said: Do not write down anything from me except the Qur’an. Whoever has written down anything, must destroy it. (Muslim, Zuhd 72; Hanbal 3/12, 21, 39)
  • The Prophet ordered Amr Ibn Aas to write everything that he (the Prophet) speaks. (Hanbal, 2/162)
  • Umar said: Qur’an is enough for us. Do not write down anything from the Prophet. (Bukhari, Jihad 176; Jizya 6; Maghazi 83; Muslim, Wasiyya 20, 21, 22)

Not surprisingly, similar events are able to be pointed out when reading the Bible and Torah, see the article on Bible inconsistencies here.

Below are screenshots taken from Sunnah.com proving that all the hadith listed above are straight from the so called "sahih" Hadith books. (Click on an image to see it larger and clearer)

Inconsistencies Within Hadith

1. "Sahih" hadith states that adultery and fornication should be punishable by stoning.

Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 7543
In-book reference: Book 97, Hadith 168
USC-MSA web (English) reference: Vol. 9, Book 93, Hadith 633

While the Quran sees adultery as affecting the other partner in a marriage. It’s a betrayal and a breaking of an oath. But even then it placed very strict standards on that but was lenient when it came to punishing slanderers of women. Adultery needs four witnesses but the slanderer can get punished just from opening his mouth without having four witnesses. It’s clear that the verse made it very difficult to implement on adultery but very easy to implement on the slanderer. Thus why we see that the verses about adultery in chapter 24 are in fact dealing with slandering and not adultery. The Quran wanted to end slandering most likely because of the very common honor killing traditions in tribal societies back then. The Quran gave a symbolic penalty for adultery since any person would lie even under oath when facing lashes. The Quran allowed people to utter disbelief when under duress (16:106), so it knows people will lie to avoid lashing. A slanderer meanwhile needs to produce four witnesses or the penalty of flogging can fall on him. Which means he will have to lie when asked even if he saw something. The truth here is not relevant. Even when a spouse has witnessed something he has to swear but the other party also can swear. Most people as we know will simply lie to avoid the punishment since the punishment of this kind has torment in it. The person can simply repent instead. To make up for this we have the verses in chapter 4 which is the more practical way of dealing with it. The Quran here established that adultery is a major sin but made the penalty for it unpracticable. Its four times easier for a slanderer to get himself in trouble than an adulterer.

Further reading of the verses about the Zani (male adulterer) and Zania (female adulterer) shows us that the issue came up concerning slandering of one of the prophet’s wife presumably.

2. "Sahih" hadith orders death penalty on apostates:

Some Zanadiqa (atheists) were brought to `Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn `Abbas who said, "If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah's Messenger forbade it, saying, 'Do not punish anybody with Allah's punishment (fire).' I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah's Messenger, 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'"

While the Qur'an says there is no compulsion in religion (2:256).

3. Qur'an says:

"Every soul is responsible only for his/her own work." (53:39)

Hadith says:

Sunan Abi Dawud 2883
In-book reference: Book 18, Hadith 22
English translation: Book 17, Hadith 2877:

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abbas:

"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Had he been a Muslim and you had emancipated slaves on his behalf, or given sadaqah on his behalf, or performed the pilgrimage, that would have reached him."

4.  Qur'an says:

"Neither the Jews, nor the Christians, will accept you, unless you follow their religion. Say, 'God's guidance is the true guidance.' If you acquiesce to their wishes, despite the knowledge you have received, you will find no ally or supporter to help you against God." (2:120)

Hadith says:

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 6098
In-book reference : Book 78, Hadith 125
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 8, Book 73, Hadith 120

Narrated Tariq: 'Abdullah said, "The best talk is Allah's Book (Qur'an), and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad."

5. Qur'an says:

"I do not say to you that I possess the treasures of God. Nor do I know the unseen. Nor do I say to you that I am an angel. I simply follow what is revealed to me." Say, 'Is the blind the same as the seer? Do you not reflect?' " (6:50)

"I have no power to benefit myself, or harm myself. Only what God wills happens to me. If I knew the unseen, I would have increased my wealth, and no harm would have afflicted me. I am no more than a warner, and a bearer of good news for those who believe." (7:188)

"I do not claim that I possess the treasures of God, nor do I know the unseen, nor do I claim to be an angel. Nor do I say to those despised by your eyes that God will not bestow any blessings upon them. God knows best what is in their innermost thoughts. (If I did this) I would be a transgressor." (11:31)

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established till a fire will come out of the land of Hijaz, and it will throw light on the necks of the camels at Busra."

Along with the hadiths above, there are hundreds more that describe the signs of the Day of Judgement (creating false characters like Imam Mahdi and Dajjal), which again, goes against the Qur'an which says that the Prophet does not know the unseen. Only God knows the unseen, as God has power and knowledge over all things.

6. Qur'an says:

[23:102]  As for those whose weights are heavy, they will be the winners.
[23:103]  Those whose weights are light are the ones who lost their souls; they abide in Hell.
[99:7]  Whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it.
[99:8]  And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
[101:6]  As for him whose weights are heavy.
[101:7]  He will lead a happy (eternal) life.
[101:8]  As for him whose weights are light.
[101:9]  His destiny is lowly.

Hadith says:

Reference : Sahih Muslim 91 c
In-book reference : Book 1, Hadith 173
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Book 1, Hadith 166

It Is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Mas'ud that the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him), observed: He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise.

7.  Satan laughs when you yawn

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 3289
In-book reference : Book 59, Hadith 98
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 4, Book 54, Hadith 509

Abu Huraira said, the Prophet said: "Yawning is from Satan. If you are about to yawn, you should try to stop it as much as possible. If you yawn, Satan will laugh."

8. Women in hell

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 1052
In-book reference : Book 16, Hadith 12
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 2, Book 18, Hadith 161

Narrated by Imran, the Prophet said; "I looked at hell and the majority of its dwellers were women".

In Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 2, Hadith 22, it is explained that the majority of hell is made up of women because they were not grateful to their husbands!

The Qur'an does not support the strange idea which implies that the criteria for attaining heaven is obedience or gratefulness to the husband. The only criteria for attaining heaven is belief in God, refraining from idol worship and observing righteousness. The above two hadith are obviously the product of the culture of Arabs in those days and how they treated women as inferior creatures who must always be subordinate to their husbands! Some Imams today still openly preach such false concepts. Many of them consider the woman to be a distraction and temptation for sin!

9. Dwellers of heaven are mostly poor

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 3241
In-book reference : Book 59, Hadith 52
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 4, Book 54, Hadith 464

Narrated Usama: The Prophet said, "I stood at the gate of Paradise and saw that the majority of the people who entered it were the poor, while the wealthy were stopped at the gate (for the accounts). But the companions of the Fire were ordered to be taken to the Fire. Then I stood at the gate of the Fire and saw that the majority of those who entered it were women."

Here again is another hadith (considered authentic by most so-called Muslims and their puppet scholars) which clearly contradicts the Qur'an. The Qur'an teaches that the dwellers of Heaven are the most righteous. Righteousness is totally independent of the wealth of a person. This is because righteousness can be maintained through multiple means and not only through monetary spending. Moreover, the Qur'an teaches that God forgives all sins for those who refrain from idol worship (4:48) and who worship Him sincerely. This once again confirms that being poor or being rich will never send a person to hell nor save a person from hell.

10. Moses naked

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 278
In-book reference : Book 5, Hadith 30
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 1, Book 5, Hadith 277

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, 'The (people of) Bani Israel used to take bath naked (all together) looking at each other. The Prophet Moses used to take a bath alone. They said, 'By Allah! Nothing prevents Moses from taking a bath with us except that he has a scrotal hernia.' So once Moses went out to take a bath and put his clothes over a stone and then that stone ran away with his clothes. Moses followed that stone saying, "My clothes, O stone! My clothes, O stone! till the people of Bani Israel saw him and said, 'By Allah, Moses has got no defect in his body. Moses took his clothes and began to beat the stone." Abu Huraira added, "By Allah! There are still six or seven marks present on the stone from that excessive beating."

The obvious question is: how can any person who calls himself a Muslim believe that the beloved Prophet said such words?

11. Days of the week and creation

Reference : Sahih Muslim 2789
In-book reference : Book 52, Hadith 10
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Book 39, Hadith 6707

Abu Hurayra reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) took hold of my hands and said: "Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, created the clay on Saturday and He created the mountains on Sunday and He created the trees on Monday and He created the things entailing labour on Tuesday and created light on Wednesday and lie caused the animals to spread on Thursday and created Adam (peace be upon him) after 'Asr on Friday; the last creation at the last hour of the hours of Friday, i.e. between afternoon and night."

Another nonsense hadith that defies all common sense.

12. Wives easy route to heaven

Reference : Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1161
In-book reference : Book 12, Hadith 16
English translation : Vol. 1, Book 7, Hadith 1161

Narrated Um Salma: The Messenger of God said; "If a woman dies while her husband was pleased with her, she will enter Paradise."

Needless to say, the Quranic criteria for admission to heaven is belief in God plus righteousness.

13. Complete nonsense

Reference : Sunan Abi Dawud 2459
In-book reference : Book 14, Hadith 147
English translation : Book 13, Hadith 2453

Narrated AbuSa'id al-Khudri: "A woman came to the Prophet while we were with him.

She said: Apostle of Allah, my husband, Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal, beats me when I pray, and makes me break my fast when I keep a fast, and he does not offer the dawn prayer until the sun rises.

He asked Safwan, who was present, about what she had said. He replied: Apostle of Allah, as for her statement "he beats me when I pray", she recites two surahs (during prayer) and I have prohibited her (to do so).

He (the Prophet) said: If one surah is recited (during prayer), that is sufficient for the people.

(Safwan continued:) As regards her saying "he makes me break my fast," she dotes on fasting; I am a young man, I cannot restrain myself.

The Apostle of Allah said on that day: A woman should not fast except with the permission of her husband.

(Safwan said:) As for her statement that I do not pray until the sun rises, we are a people belonging to a class, and that (our profession of supplying water) is already known about us. We do not awake until the sun rises. He said: When you awake, offer your prayer."

Again we note the contradiction between some hadith and the Qur'an. Nowhere in the Qur'an is the husband given the authority to allow or prevent his wife from observing her religious duties! These duties are authorized by God and are totally independent of the relation between a man and his wife, or for that matter, any human relations.

14. God established on the throne on the seventh day

Al-Nesaay:

Abu Huraira said; "God created the Heavens and the Earth in six days then firmly established on the throne on the seventh day."

This seventh day addition is a manipulation of 7:54.

15. Why babies cry?

Reference : Sahih Muslim 2366 b
In-book reference : Book 43, Hadith 192
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Book 30, Hadith 5837

Abu Huraira said, the Messenger of God said; "Every newborn from the descendants of Adam is touched by Satan when born, and that is why he/she starts by crying. The only exception was Jesus and his mother."

16. Spit on left side after bad dream

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 6986
In-book reference : Book 91, Hadith 5
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 9, Book 87, Hadith 115

Abu Qatada said the Prophet said: "The good dream is from God and the bad dream is from Satan. If one of you has a bad dream, you should spit on your left side and seek refuge in God from Satan."

No comment whatsoever.

17. When you spit rub it with left shoe

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 414
In-book reference : Book 8, Hadith 64
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 1, Book 8, Hadith 406

Narrated Abu Sa`id:
The Prophet (ﷺ) saw sputum on (the wall of) the mosque in the direction of the Qibla and scraped it off with gravel. Then he forbade Spitting in front or on the right, but allowed it on one's left or under one's left foot.

Why on God's green earth would the Prophet Muhammad give directions of where and how to spit? And another question arises, why are people spitting during prayers anyway? Such nonsense!

18. Dead Muslim = Jew in hell

Reference : Sahih Muslim 2767 a
In-book reference : Book 50, Hadith 57
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Book 37, Hadith 6665

Burda narrated that his father said the Messenger of God said; "Every time a Muslim man dies, God puts in hell fire a Jew or a Christian."

19. Dip a fly in your food

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 3320
In-book reference : Book 59, Hadith 126
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 4, Book 54, Hadith 537

Abu Hurayra said; the Messenger of God said; "If a fly falls in your drink, you should immerse it completely in the drink, because in one of the wings is the disease and in the other wing is the healing."

20. Terrorist groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda follow hadith

Sunan Abu Dawud 4356 (Prescribed Punishments, Kitab Al-Hudud):

Some people raided the camels of the Prophet (peace be upon him), drove them off, and apostatized. They killed the herdsman of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) who was a believer. He (the Prophet) sent (people) in pursuit of them and they were caught. He had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes put out. The verse regarding fighting against Allah and His Prophet (peace be upon him) was then revealed. These were the people about whom Anas ibn Malik informed al-Hajjaj when he asked him.

Sunan Abu Dawud 4339 (Prescribed Punishments, Kitab Al-Hudud):

The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The blood of a Muslim man who testifies that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is Allah's Apostle should not lawfully be shed except only for one of three reasons: a man who committed fornication after marriage, in which case he should be stoned; one who goes forth to fight with Allah and His Apostle, in which case he should be killed or crucified or exiled from the land; or one who commits murder for which he is killed."

As you can clearly see from the barbaric statements above, evil terrorist groups like ISIS blindly follow hadith as their guidance. So for the majority of Muslims that denounce ISIS, they should first denounce the so called "sahih" hadith that promotes this type of demonic behavior. These fabricated collections of hadith make the Prophet look like a crazed madman, of which he clearly is not. Allah the All-Mighty calls the Prophet "a mercy for all of mankind." (21:107).

21. Drink camel urine

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 5686
In-book reference : Book 76, Hadith 9
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 7, Book 71, Hadith 590

Narrated Anas: The climate of Medina did not suit some people, so the Prophet ordered them to follow his shepherd, i.e. his camels, and drink their milk and urine.

22. Burn down the houses of people who don't pray

Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 2420
In-book reference : Book 44, Hadith 10
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 3, Book 41, Hadith 602

The Prophet (SAW) said, "No doubt, I intended to order somebody to pronounce the Iqama of the (compulsory congregational) prayer and then I would go to the houses of those who do not attend the prayer and burn their houses over them."

This same fabricated hadith is also listed in Sunan Abi Dawud's collection:

Reference : Sunan Abi Dawud 548
In-book reference : Book 2, Hadith 158
English translation : Book 2, Hadith 548

“The Messenger of Allah said: 'Let men desist from failing to attend the congregation, otherwise I will burn their houses down.' "

23. Scientific miracles in hadith

The earth is carried on a giant bull; when it shakes its head, then an earthquake occurs. (Ibn Katheer 2/29; 50/1)

24. Blind obedience

Narated By Anas bin Malik : Allah’s Apostle said, “You should listen to and obey, your ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a raisin.” (Bukhari Vol 9, Book 89, Number 256)

These hadiths are considered (Sahih) and pass the test invented by Muslims who set up the criteria to accept or reject them. The above hadiths are what they call "strong" hadiths. There are hundreds and hundreds of similarly insane and ridiculous hadiths.

Surely whoever who has a brain capable of independent thought will naturally reject such absolute rubbish.

25. Muhammad bewitched by a Jew

The Prophet had been bewitched by a Jew, and for several days he did not know what he was doing. (Bukhari, 59/11; 76/47; Hanbal 6/57; 4/367)
